Concordance Provides Clean Water for Those in Need

Concordance Healthcare Solutions prides itself on delivering service beyond expectations, to our customers and to those in need. As a member of the healthcare industry, we strive to make a positive impact on local and global health issues. Earlier this year, Concordance partnered with the Water Works Program for a team building activity that provides clean drinking water for communities in need.

Why Water?

Water supports all walks of life, however, not having access to clean drinking water is a global issue affecting millions of people. Quick facts:

• Eight million children die each year due to unsafe drinking water – that’s 5,000 child deaths every day
• Unsafe drinking water is the biggest killer of children under the age of five
• More than one billion people worldwide have no access to clean drinking water

The Water Works Program 

Founded in 2012, the Water Works Program helps meet the fundamental need for clean water by making it possible for people around the world to get involved. Through the Water Works Program, individuals can assist in constructing and donating water filtration systems that will effectively increase the health and well-being of an entire community. The Water Works Program also matches every water filtration system built with an additional donation of an emergency filtration system for refugee camps and other areas in need. 

Teamwork 

During Concordance’s team building event, employees were blindfolded while building the water filtration system. This is done to add perspective for the participants, as poor water quality is the single largest cause of avoidable blindness in the developing world. By blindfolding team members, the activity allows individuals to experience firsthand a side effect of unclean water, while also adding a degree of difficulty to the task, challenging team members to work together to complete each step.

The program helps employees gain perspective, realize their potential to make a difference in the world and connect with others from their company. Every completed water filtration system is labeled with a “story number" allowing employees to track their system and see it in the hands of the individual families who received them.

Our Impact

The completed water filtration systems were sent back to the Water Works Program for final inspections. The systems were distributed in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to the Kyaka II Refugee Settlement Camp in the Kyegegwa District of Uganda. In total, Concordance built 23 water filtration systems that will provide clean water for over 4,000 people. Click here for more information about the Water Works Program.
