A local art studio has established a community project to help bring art materials to artists in need.

The Poignon Project is set to open the Community Art Shed at the studio’s location, 227 E. Perry St.  The shed allows aspiring artists to take needed art supplies and tools at no cost.

“Our goal is to allow all artists to freely create their ideas into reality,” Ryan Poignon, owner, said.  The shed is to open on June 12. It will be open every day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Poignon said the idea to bring the Community Art Shed to life started a few years ago. He said his wife Monica presented the idea to him to start an art cabinet and have enough space.  Poignon said donations are currently being accepted. Donations are to be new or lightly used supplies. He asks to not leave donations in or around the shed but to drop donations off during regular business hours. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.  Poignon said he will have a storage room in the studio for donation overflow. He said they are also not accepting aerosol cans, like spray paint.

There is also a GoFundMe campaign for those interested in monetary donations, which will be used to purchase essential art supplies for the shed. Visit for more information, https://www.gofundme.com/f/community-art-shed?fbclid=IwAR10GibxYMAbeBt-UQCFGRZ0NE-aEU_LIKX1v_RGdlxYWicF8DKqfYnKtK8.

“I am very excited to see what projects will come from this,” Poignon said.

Poignon said he has gotten tremendous support so far from the community through donations. He hopes to expect to help art classes in the future.
