Heidelberg University Breaks Ground on the Fieldhouse
June 24, 2024

Congratulations to Heidelberg University on the groundbreaking for their newest and largest facility that has been decades in the making!

Yesterday Heidelberg University, along with alumni, Marker, Inc., elected officials, and community members celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the $27.4 million Student Athletics, Academics, and Recreation Center.
The center, also called the Fieldhouse, is being completely funded by donors. Construction is on target for August 2025 completion, and we can’t wait to come together again to cut the ribbon on the new facility!
So far, behind-the-scenes and underground work has been completed to prepare the site, located across from Heidelberg’s King Residence Hall on Main Street and extending around the corner to Walker Street, where a new access street is being constructed. Steel framing for the 110,000-foot-square-foot structure is scheduled to be delivered in early July, according to Rod Morrison, associate vice president for Facilities and Engineering at Heidelberg. Then, Morrison added, vertical construction will begin in mid-August.
Heidelberg unveiled plans for the Fieldhouse last October. When complete, the new facility will feature three indoor basketball courts, a competition-level track and field space, a turf field, a training room, locker rooms, classrooms, leadership development and team-building space, a lobby for events and social gatherings and an upper-level mezzanine for events and two-sided viewing.
“Athletics is an extension of the classroom, and we want ALL of our students – those who choose to play a sport and those who don’t – to succeed at every level,” said ‘Berg Athletic Director Greg Cooper.

"The addition of the Student Athletics, Academic, and Recreation Center is the next step in our relentless pursuit of helping all students and athletes reach their potential and be the best in all they do at Heidelberg. The hope is that this facility will be one more element of their Heidelberg experience that will propel them to find success holistically.
