Ritz Theatre (The)
30 S Washington St
Tiffin, OH 44883
The Ritz Theatre proudly presents their 23rd annual Summer Theatre Camp. The campers will present "The Frog Prince" at the end of the weeklong day camp. These performances are one hour of action-packed, family-oriented entertainment complete with music, singing and dancing. Without a "spoiler alert" disclaimer and as you might guess with a story that includes a frog and a prince, the lesson learned is a good one..."it's not what you are, but who you are that counts."
The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the nation's largest touring children's theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of tour actor/directors. A two-person tour team will arrive in town at the beginning of the week with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast.
The team will hold auditions and cast the 50-60 local campers (grades 1-12) to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Friday and Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children's stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included in the residency are several enrichment workshops presented by the tour directors and local volunteers. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project.
The Ritz Theatre is committed to providing entertainment, social and educational activities to the local communities it serves. And, summer camp has become a staple for local children, from Tiffin and beyond, to create a life-long relationship with the theatre and the performing arts. Many campers come back year after year and find that summer theatre camp has become a part of their identity which engrains an appreciating for diversity and a love of the stage. The executive director of The Ritz, Michael Strong, stated "Summer theatre camp give the kids an opportunity to flourish in an environment that is all-inclusive and often times gives them on outlet to explore and become their best unique self."
