Feature Friday: The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel

Feature Friday: The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel
December 16, 2021

Happy Feature Friday, where every Friday the Chamber team will highlight one of our fantastic members by repping them for the day and telling the community more about them. This week's Feature Friday is: The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel!

The Salvation Army has a rich history in Tiffin and Seneca County! They began serving their neighbors in 1892.  The goal of The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel is to help their neighbors and community members who may be in need.

Services The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel provides:

  • Food Pantry and hygiene items to those in need
  • They run the TSA Café (Soup Kitchen) which operates Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:30-12:30.
  • They assist with clothing and small household item needs (toasters, pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, blankets, etc.)
  • They operate a donation area that is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am-3pm.  The first Tuesday of the month their donation area is open for extended hours until 6pm, which gives those with a busy schedule a chance to stop in.
  • They provide help with rental assistance, sewer, water, gas, and electric.

Some quick stats about 2021:

  • 2,308 People Served
  • 670 First Time People Served This Year
  • Food Bags: 876
  • 1,229 Articles of clothing distributed

Aside from serving the community, they offer children’s programming on Wednesday nights (starting in January/February), Bible Study on Tuesday Nights at 5pm, Women’s Group on Thursdays at 4pm, and Worship on Sunday Mornings at 11am.

The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel is able to do these amazing things through monetary gifts given by individuals and several generous organizations in the Seneca County community!  One way to help these programs to continue is to donate to the Salvation Army Kettles this holiday season!

Their virtual kettle is open to those who don’t carry cash. The first $10,000 raised from this kettle will be doubled this year. So far we have raised $287/10,000.  You can give to the virtual kettle at: https://give.salvationarmy.org/campaign/tiffin-virtual-red-kettle-2021/c363098

There is one more week of Kettles and they have raised a total amount of $28,182 out of their $50,000 goal. The money raised through their physical kettles and our virtual kettle goes towards helping your fellow neighbors right here in Tiffin-Seneca County! The Kettle season ends December 24th.

A special message from The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel Team...

"A unique aspect about Tiffin is that our Kettles are completely volunteer driven! That means that the people that you see ringing the bell have decided to do so through the goodness of their heart! Because of this, we don’t need to pay kettle workers, so your money is stretched even further! In order to do this, we need volunteers and we are praying that people signup to ring the bell during our final push. Do-gooders can signup to ring the bell by private messaging our facebook page, emailing James.Hughes@use.salvationarmy.org, or by calling our office 419-447-2252. Just one two hour shift could change your neighbor’s life!"

We would like to also thank the 30+ local businesses that have a countertop kettle at their location. They are leaders in the community and exemplify what it means to love local!  Tiffin-Seneca County is a community that gives back and the values of this community is shared by The Salvation Army. We are all just neighbors helping neighbors. Thank you for helping to fuel the mission!"

We are thankful to have The Salvation Army Tiffin Citadel as a passionate Chamber member and are grateful for the work they do to make our community better!
