Feature Friday: Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter

Feature Friday: Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter
September 22, 2023

Happy Feature Friday, where every Friday the Chamber team will highlight one of our fantastic members by repping them for the day and telling the community more about them. This week's Feature Friday is: The Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter!

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Their vision is a world without Alzheimer’s. More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 11 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Ohio alone, there are more than 250,000 people living with the disease and more than 500,000 caregivers.

The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio, is gearing up to celebrate their Paint the Town Purple campaign. Area businesses, families and individuals in Tiffin and surrounding communities will  join together to help fight for Alzheimer’s first survivor. This event, taking place September 16-30, aims to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s education, support and research. In addition to decorating and wearing purple, the Association is asking people to start a Walk to End Alzheimer’s team, and get involved in the fight through fundraising. Registration is free and resources are available to help with fundraising ideas. Paint the Town Purple will serve as the official kick-start to the Walk, getting the community excited about the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Heminger Center on the campus of Tiffin University.

The Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio, is inviting residents from Seneca and surrounding counties to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Tiffin Regional Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on September 30th. On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
