Welcome new member, Stemtown Historical Society Museum!

The Stemtown Historical Society was established in 1979. Eleven community members attended a Green Springs council meeting and proposed establishing the Society. Claude Young was the first President. Their original location was a house previously owned by the Watrous family on East Morgan Street in Green Springs. An outbuilding was also built on the property to house some more artifacts. In the spring of 2023, the Society received news that the house's structural integrity was no longer safe, and the costs to repair it were unaffordable. They decided to close the museum until they could afford to rebuild or find a new home. In memory of his wife Maxine, Bud Rutherford donated $40,000 to the Stemtown Historical Society to purchase the former Calvary Church on South Kansas Street, also in Green Springs. The Society moved from Sandusky County to Seneca County and is still located in Green Springs. They plan to officially reopen their doors in April 2024.

It is the mission of the Stemtown Historical Society to preserve the history of Green Springs, located in Sandusky and Seneca counties in Ohio. Their activities include gathering and disseminating historical knowledge, collecting and preserving historical things, and fostering an appreciation of historical heritage for the education and benefit of the Society's members and the general public. The Stemtown Historical Society is a museum that not only offers a place to learn about the Green Springs area and the places that once were, but they also hope to offer a research area, a place for small groups to hold meetings, and some fun events for all ages.

Their current board members, listed below, are volunteers, and their curator is a subcontractor. Stemtown Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)3. They have a small group of volunteers that help with various tasks, from yard work to cleaning. They keep their doors open and hold events with help from generous donations, membership dues, and grants. If you can help in any way, reach out to them! They strive to be a place for everyone in the community to enjoy through learning and researching, participating in activities, or just enjoying the company of others. It is free to enter the museum, but donations are highly appreciated.

The Stemtown Historical Society Museum is located at 111 S Kansas St in Green Springs. For questions and information, call 419-639-0319 or email stemtownhistoricalsociety@gmail.com. Be sure to check out their Facebook page and website, stemtownhistoricalsociety.com.
