Generations of quality products and service…. Republic Lumber was founded in 1896 by Daniel Cole. His father, Van Cole, had operated a saw mill in the village of Republic, OH. Dan Cole expanded the saw mill to selling lumber, coal, making windows, building blocks, and small hardware. In 1940 Dan’s son, Carroll and his wife Lucile purchased the lumber yard. Both were school teachers. Carroll continued to teach, and Lucile actually ran the business. He worked at the yard in the summer months. In 1946 Carroll gave up teaching and worked full time at the yard. Their son Charles worked all summers at the yard while growing up. After college he became a full-time employee. Charles married and his wife and three children (upon completing college) all work full time at the lumber business.
